Told by an older member of the seminar: “If you really love clothes, don’t sell them. You have to make them.” Took leave from the university and studied art theory under a painter. D.sign moved from a concept toward preparing for a practice.

“Paintings” made with UV inkjet, printed on obi and kimono. Real obi as the ground; buried under the print; set behind the picture plane so it shows only from the side; shown through a hole cut in the paper; scanned, recolored, repainted. The circle became the hole. Where do you stand to see what is real.

Designed a work without using real obi. Washi, gold leaf, acrylic, and light reflected from silver behind. Yet it was never printed. An image is not on a surface; it rises in space, with shape, color, and sound inseparable.

Write the viewer’s position and conditions in words, let AI read them, and correct the image against human cognition. Nothing on the screen is real. The viewer is placed where no person can physically stand, and still looks as a person does. The image decides where the viewer stands.

TORSO。

TORSO. Pictures with a torso placed in them. From a single image made with AI, fragments like the faces of a crystal are made and laid over it; water is laid down in a paint simulation and the paint left to flow; what to keep is decided and laid over the original image again. The full size, 90 × 50.38 cm, is the actual size of the screen looked at while working. As a rule, not printed. For whoever wants one, printed on washi and signed with a brush.

TORSO。
